Hulen E&P, LLC leads Hulen’s growth, prospecting, acquisitions and subsurface work. Hulen Operating Company conducts field operations as operator of record. Hulen EnCap, LLC handles non-operated working-interest participation. All three are based in Oklahoma City, with wells in the Mid-Continent and Permian Basin. Read our history.
The role
We are looking for a well-rounded, hands-on petroleum engineer who is comfortable working across reservoir evaluation, drilling and completions, production optimization, and acquisitions. You will report to Hulen’s Director of Subsurface and work closely with our leadership and Hulen Operating Company’s operations team, using independent judgment and practical operating experience to move projects from evaluation through execution.
The role calls for breadth: evaluating and coordinating work across disciplines. You are not expected to personally perform every specialized engineering task. This is a consulting engagement, not a full-time position, and the time commitment is flexible and depends on project activity.
What you'll do
Reservoir & Economic Evaluation
- Evaluate reservoir performance, offset production, and remaining development potential.
- Build decline curves, production forecasts, type curves, AFEs, and economic evaluations, and support reserves evaluations.
- Evaluate acquisition targets and non-operated working-interest opportunities, including reserves, production history, operator AFEs, and economics.
- Work with our geologists on new prospects, acquisitions, and development opportunities.
Drilling, Completions & Development
- Support drilling, completion, and stimulation programs for vertical, directional, and horizontal wells.
- Support development planning and carry selected projects from evaluation into execution.
- Review vendor proposals and make technical recommendations for drilling and completion work.
- Contribute engineering content for prospect packages and investor presentations.
Production Optimization & Field Support
- Review producing wells and identify production optimization, recompletion, workover, and artificial lift opportunities.
- Work with field operations to troubleshoot well performance and improve project economics.
- Review vendor proposals and make technical recommendations for production work.
What you bring
- B.S. in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of upstream oil and gas experience preferred.
- Strong background in conventional reservoirs, production engineering, and well optimization.
- Hands-on experience with recompletions, workovers, stimulation design, and artificial lift.
- Proficiency in decline curve analysis, economic modeling, and reserves evaluation, using industry-standard software.
- Experience with Oklahoma and Mid-Continent producing formations strongly preferred.
- Sound independent judgment, clear communication, and a record of carrying projects from evaluation through execution.
- Experience with smaller independent operators is a plus.
Why Hulen
- A flexible consulting arrangement, with the time commitment based on project activity and your availability.
- Direct collaboration with our Director of Subsurface, leadership, and operations team.
- Work on producing wells and development opportunities in the Mid-Continent and Permian Basin.
- Real influence on technical decisions, and the chance to see projects through execution.
- Help build Hulen’s engineering function.
Location
Oklahoma City, OK: 6701 Broadway Ext #300. Local or regional candidates are preferred, with availability for regular in-person collaboration.
