Operations

Technical Expertise. Field Execution.

Hulen E&P, LLC evaluates the technical potential and the economics of each opportunity; Hulen Operating Company drills, recompletes and operates the wells, in the Mid-Continent and the Permian Basin of West Texas.

What we do

From Evaluation to Production.

One team carries a project from the first map to a producing well. These three capabilities work together from start to finish.

  1. Oil sample in a bottle on a wellhead.

    Technical & Economic Evaluation

Hulen E&P, LLC leads the technical and economic evaluation of each opportunity, from the geologic map to the project economics. Cuttings mineralogy, oil-sample geochemistry and fracture modeling are added when a decision needs more certainty.

SupportsWhich prospects to pursue, which locations to drill, and which to pass on.

  2. Rig-floor crew tripping pipe on an Oklahoma drilling rig under an overcast sky, 2026

    Drilling & Development

As operator of record, Hulen Operating Company drills and operates Hulen’s wells, including vertical wells, deviated exploratory wells and the redevelopment of a legacy field on Oklahoma’s eastern shelf. Geology, engineering and field crews work from the same plan.

SupportsGetting each well from location to production.

  3. Workover unit raising its derrick on a Hulen location

    Recompletions & Asset Optimization

Mature fields and existing wellbores can hold bypassed intervals. We evaluate pay behind pipe, re-enter and recomplete existing wellbores, and run workovers, checking whether an existing wellbore can do the job before we drill a new one.

SupportsMore from wells and fields already in place.

Technically Informed. Economically Disciplined.

Technical Potential and Economics, Evaluated Together.

A project moves forward when the technical case and the economics both hold up, and plans can change as new data comes in.

Technical potential

  • Geologic mapping and well-log correlation
  • Petrophysics and reservoir engineering
  • Offset and historical production analysis
  • Drilling and completion design

Economics & risk

  • Development and operating costs
  • Project economics across a range of outcomes
  • Geologic, mechanical and price risk
  • Capital allocation across competing projects

Not every opportunity we evaluate meets our technical or economic criteria. Those that do not are set aside or revisited when conditions change.

Technical exhibits

Understanding the Reservoir.

Technical evaluation starts in the rock. These exhibits show the kinds of work behind each project.

Woodford cuttings, Lewis 1-7Rock cuttings caught while drilling help confirm the formation being drilled, and can be sent for lab work such as XRD mineralogy and acid solubility.
Well planning

From Subsurface Interpretation to Wellbore Placement

Hulen integrates geologic interpretation, offset well control, and directional drilling plans to evaluate subsurface targets and guide wellbore placement.

Lewis 1-7: Revisiting a Legacy Well.

The Lewis 1-7 near Luther, Oklahoma, gave us the chance to revisit an existing vertical wellbore and evaluate reservoir potential that had not been developed. Rather than drilling a new well from surface, Hulen re-entered the existing wellbore in August 2026.

Geologic evaluation identified the Woodford and Misener as potential completion targets. As of October 2026, the well is awaiting completion operations targeting those intervals.

Operating Areas & History.

L&T Oil and Gas began drilling in 1976; Hulen Operating Company was formed in 1994 and drilled its first well, the Curby 26-1, in 1995. Today, in Oklahoma, Hulen Operating Company operates wells in Lincoln, Oklahoma and Noble counties, with historical wells in surrounding central and north-central counties. In the Permian Basin of West Texas, Hulen has wells in Irion and Schleicher counties.
